There are all kinds of tents available to the sport enthusiast from a small single or one person tent to a large multi-room tent. There are also tents that are designed for use on cars and trailers and others that are specific for climatic conditions. Tents, in general, are easy to set up and makes for a great way for families to spend time together. When you're camping, your tent is your most important piece of camping equipment. So, make sure that you select wisely insuring that you keep warm and dry.
Camping tents are often classified as a 1-person, 2-person tent or a family tent. Irrespective of the classification of the tent, one should always check the actual dimensions of the tent. You should also check on how the tent is configured (whether square, rectangular, round, narrow, etc.). That gives you an idea of how you will fit inside the tent. In addition, one should check the height dimensions of the tent to get an idea of whether there’s standing room, sitting room or just lying room.
Geodesic Tents: A geodesic tent is similar to a dome tent, but with a slightly different structure which gives them greater strength in high winds.
Touring Tents: Touring tents can be extended ridge tents or extended dome tents. They normally have a porch area, which is very useful for cooking. Touring tents often have windows and are the tents of choice for people who spend long periods of time camping.
Frame Tents: These are camping tents that have the best headroom and are useful for families and those who plan to cook inside the tent. The disadvantage of the frame tent is that it is heavy and difficult to carry and only suitable if you are traveling by vehicle.
Ridge Tent: This is a triangular shaped tent. It is a more traditional than you are used to seeing. You rarely see this one around nowadays.
Dome Tents: A dome-shaped tent is very simple to erect and very lightweight. The flexible poles thread through the tent fabric crisscrossing in the middle. The poles are normally made of reinforced plastic or a metal alloy. Dome tents can range from a very compact one, to a 2-person tent, to a family sized tent with standing room.
Hoop Tents: These are a cross between a ridge and a dome tent. They are strong with room inside. They can be multiple hoop, also known as a tunnel tent. Hoop tents are often favored by mountain climbers because of their strength in high winds and extreme weather conditions.
